Oakland Condo - French Style
Challenge
It was high time our client’s love of art, craft and all things French be reflected in her spacious 2 bedroom condo in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood. The spacious layout and the dark rustic floors were great, but way too much black granite in the kitchen sucked up light.
Solution
- Bring in a light, fresh Caesarstone for the backsplash and new smaller service shelf to the dining area. Enhance the remaining black countertop and sink with a new modern faucet.
- Create classic French style with a custom designed bed canopy made with an authentic, French Toile de Jouy for our client’s own carved french bed. A matching custom, pleated shower curtain graces the guest bath.
- Design a custom oval dining table with an amazing table base made from architectural salvage.
- The huge Redwood corbels date from the years just after the 1906 earthquake when the city was rebuilt with this local wood.
- Introduce a sophisticated, rich pallet of colors for both drama and warmth.
- Open the view with clean, minimal, white solar shades in the living and office areas and blackout shades for the master bedroom.
- Upgrade the lighting to show off the art.
- Install storage systems for the entry and office closets.
- Build custom floating shelves for the office wall in the guest room
- Frame and install art that had been languishing in storage. Combine our client’s basket collection with her yarn collection for beautiful storage in plain sight.
Solution
A beautiful home that reflects the many facets of our client’s active life.
