Challenge

Transform this small, dated storefront nail salon into an airy, comfortable and serene modern spa.

Solution

• Introduce a pale color pallet to visually enlarge the space and acoustical wall treatments to soften sound
• Work with artisans to fabricate custom fixtures
• Source five pedicure stations with individually plumbed sinks
• Design a long manicure bar, a dry bar, reception desk and waiting area with re-circulating fountain
• Reconfigure bathroom to be ADA compliant
• Create loft space to serve as employee lounge with seating, storage and counter space for microwave and teapot
• Compact Italian staircase leading up to loft creates additional visual interest.
• I worked with a master craftsman in Connecticut to design the perfect hand made carrier for pedicures. These Shaker Carriers are made of Maple with a clear oil finish.

The result is a uniquely modern salon environment in the heart of a hip San Francisco neighborhood.
